Dei Fratelli

I was disappointed to see the rating on your test of canned tomatoes. I have used a lot of those tested and I was very
impressed with Dei Fratelli tomato sauce.

I suppose the proof is all in the tasting, but for my taste, Dei Fratelli is the best canned tomatoes I ever cooked with.

I used to buy it at the Giant stores in the Binghamton area. They sold out to Weis Stores and Weis discontinued it.
Now we have to go to Buffalo for them.

I start with olive oil and add 1 clove of garlic, chopped, and saute.
Add one can of tomato paste and let it cook in the oil for a few minutes.
Add one can of Dei Fratelli canned tomato sauce
Add one/half can of water and stir into the sauce.
Add one small onion, peeled, (leave whole so you can remove it later)
Add one piece of green pepper (about 1x2" square)
Add one can V8 juice
Add several leaves of sweet basil (chopped)
Add several leaves of Italian parsley (chopped)
Add one tablespoon of salt
Add one tablespoon of sugar
Add one/half teaspoon black pepper.

Simmer for one hour. Then add several cooked meatballs and/or Italian sausage
Simmer for an additional hour. Remove the onion and pepper.
Serve over freshly made pasta.

tomato juice
by: Norris Trimm

Dei Fratelli has the best tasting tomato juice in stores. Right from the can it tastes like just made tomato juice, rich with jthe riight amount of salt. I also mixed it with Contadina tomato paste to add a fresh tomato taste to my home made tomato sauce.

I am also a big fan of their tomato products. The vegetable and tomato juices are the best that I have ever tasted, far superior in taste compared to V-8.

I'm afraid I don't agree

Although I love your passion for this product and it seems you have a flare for cooking, I rate all the canned tomatoes on this site as a pure product.

Sure, if I added salt to the brands that didn't have enough flavor I could rate them higher in the Flavor category but that is not what I try to do for my readers. Same goes for the consistency category. If you boil any tomato long enough the juice will thicken.

I rate these products as I see fit based off the way they come out of the can.

This brand did not make the cut. So I'm sticking to my taste buds on this one.

Thank you so much for taking the time to submit your comments. I look forward to hearing more from you and if you feel like adding one of the recipes you make with this brand please do post them in the "Your Easy Recipes" page on this site!
